CM Builders installs CertainTeed products. CertainTeed is green. Here’s how:
New, Environmentally-Sustainable Formula. CertainTeed’s proprietary FiberCement formula replaces silica with fly ash, a green raw material, and incorporates a majority of wood fiber from sustainably-managed forests.
More than 30% Recycled Content. CertainTeed FiberCement contains more than 30% pre- consumer recycled material which contributes directly to LEED and NAHB project certification in the Materials and Resources and Resource Efficiency categories.
Reduces Landfill Waste. By incorporating fly ash into its FiberCement formula, CertainTeed recycles this pre-consumer by-product from electric generation at coal-fired facilities, diverting over 50,000 tons from landfills each year.
Forest Conservation. Most of CertainTeed’s wood fiber comes from sustainably-managed forests. We are currently working with suppliers to ensure certification of 100% of our wood fiber pulp in the near future.
Raw Materials Close to Home. CertainTeed sources as many of our raw materials as possible from within 500 miles of our plants, reducing the impact of transportation and related greenhouse gases.
Inert, Stable Formulation for Optimum Performance. Specially-sourced inert fly ash allows the creation of a stable chemical matrix, resulting in optimum product performance, superior quality, durability, and resistance to fire and insects.
Water Conservation. CertainTeed’s manufacturing facilities recycle the water used in their plants, saving more than 1.5 billion gallons per year.
Lighter…For Less Energy. With CertainTeed, you get lighter weight boards without sacrificing quality or integrity. And because CertainTeed boards are made with fly ash, they are about 5% lighter, translating into less energy used to produce and transport, and less to lift at the job site.
ICC Building Code Approved. CertainTeed FiberCement’s new formulation carries the ICC Building Code approval (reference report #ESR-1668).
LEED and NAHB. CertainTeed is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and the National Association of Home Builders and supports their programs with a FiberCement line that contributes to LEED and NAHB certification and an environmentally-sound manufacturing process.
